The motive for Rufus saying, "pretend you're me" would probably be so that Rufus could hatch a revenge plan on Argus while Cletus worked on the puzzle which, arguably, would take longer for Cletus to solve thus buying Rufus more time to enact a plan against Argus. With success! Cletus has demonstrated time and time again that he has the ability to change despite his pompous presentation and alas, I argue Rufus simply said, "pretend you're me." and it went from there. Cletus has even let Rufus perform surgery on him. One may argue that Cletus would never agree to working with Rufus with such little information, however, Rufus has indisputably proven his ability to succeed with plans he's made despite how ludicrous they may initially appear to be. Cletus asks, "Where's Cletus?" after having woken up which implies that the two MUST have talked during those brief moments after the fall through the rotor. This gives Rufus an opportunity to act and change the beard. Rufus managed to get through unscathed and, furthermore, Argus did not see what exactly happened after the jump - this includes what happened to both Rufus and Cletus. This would explain why Cletus, while falling, was shocked to see Barry falling beside him and how he could ever know Barry's name and it would also explain why he would laugh after Barry praised Cletus (while thinking Cletus was Rufus).įinally, only two people are required to pin the rotor sufficiently for the rotor to remain stationary- regardless of what the dialogue says.Īfter Rufus and Cletus jumped, my argument is that the person who opens his eyes after the jump into the rotor to get to the transmitter is actually Cletus. Some may argue how Cletus would ever know Barry, but let's pause for a minute and remember the Barry was first encountered on the monorail ship which was commanded by Cletus. I'm going to take that as it actually being Cletus, afterall, there is no reason under that circumstance for Rufus to be laughing like Cletus. We also know that the person falling laughed much like Cletus. Rufus bears witness to that.Ĭletus and Rufus jumped into the Rotor whereas Argus remained up top. We know, definitively, that Cletus is on the left, Rufus is in the middle, and Argus is on the right.Īrgus mentions that Cletus is the one who is knowledgeable about how the rotor is going to function. Let's take a step back and analyze everything that we know from the moment that Cletus, Rufus, and Argus catwalk to the rotor.
